271pp.
Secker & Warburg, London

A vanishingly scarce signed first edition of this early work by noted author and campaigner, Brigid Brophy, with an additional loosely inserted letter, also hand signed by the author.

Signed and dedicated from the author to the front free endpaper, and with a loosely inserted letter typed and hand signed again by Brigid Brophy. Signed copies of Brophy’s works are exceptionally scarce, with this being a particularly lovely example.

In the original very scarce unclipped dust wrapper.

The first edition, first impression, with no further impressions stated.

Written by Social Reformer, Brigid Brophy. Brophy campaigned for a variety of social reform, including vegetarianism, gay rights, animal rights and humanism, and was responsible for the introduction of a Public Lending Right, which saw authors receive a commission when their books were borrowed from the library.

'The King of a Rainy Country' was her third work of fiction and is considered semi-autobiographical.

In the original cloth binding in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally very smart with just slight bumping to the extremities and head and tail of the spine. Dust wrapper is smart with the occasional closed tears and creasing to the extremities. Slight sunning to spine and the odd mark to the wrap. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Signed and dedicated by the author to the front free endpaper, and with a loosely inserted typed letter, hand signed by the author.

Grading: NEAR FINE in a VERY GOOD dust wrapper.
