Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc., Garden City, New York

The very scarce first US edition of this round robin style collaborative work of detective fiction, with contributions from some of the greatest authors of the genre, including Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers and G. K. Chesterton.

The first US edition, stated as such to the copyright page. First published in the UK the year prior by Hodder and Stoughton. Lacking the original very scarce dust wrapper.

Very scarce in all contemporary editions.

A chain written detective novel, written by fourteen members of the British Detection Club. Sayers explains in the introduction that "Each writer must construct his instalment with a definite solution in view—that is, he must not introduce new complications merely 'to make it more difficult’”.

In the publisher’s original cloth binding. Externally sound, with bumping to the extremities and the odd mark and rubbing to the boards. Hinges strained. Internally binding strained in places. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd spot and age toning.
