The first edition, first impression, with no further impressions stated. In the publisher’s original red cloth binding. First edition in book form; the work was first serialised in McClure’s Magazine. 

With a frontispiece and nine further monochrome plates. Collated complete. 

With a leaf of advertisements to the rear of the work.

In the publisher’s original cloth binding. Externally very smart with bumping to the extremities, resulting in slight splitting to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine. The odd mark to the boards. Ink signature and bookseller label to front paste down. Front hinge very slightly strained but firm. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd spot, heavier to the first and last few pages. Tidemark to extremity of the first four leaves.
