Sidgwick and Jackson Limited, London.

A scarce first edition of this work from noted science fiction author, Arthur C. Clarke.

The first hardback edition, first impression with no further impressions stated. Whilst the story was written in 1947 it was not published until 1947 as a paperback from World Editions Inc., with this 1953 hardback being the preferred edition.

Written prior to the Apollo programme, the story follows the fictional ship ‘Prometheus’ as it prepares for the first mission to the moon.

In the original cloth binding in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally in excellent condition with just slight bumping to the extremities and the occasional mark to the boards. Offsetting to endpapers. Dust wrapper is generally smart with chipping and closed tears to the extremities, resulting in slight loss to the wrap. Sunning to reverse of wrap. The odd handling mark to wrap and creasing to joints. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just minor age toning to extremities.

Grading: VERY GOOD in a VERY GOOD dust wrapper.
