1939 The Thirty-Nine Steps by John Buchan
1939
253pp.
William Blackwood & Sons Ltd, Edinburgh and London
The film tie-in edition of this classic espionage thriller, in the scarce original dust wrapper.
The nineteenth edition overall. First published in 1915.
In the original unclipped dust wrapper. Later issue, with 2/- correction sticker to backstrip. Dust wrapper is very delicate with this being a smart example.
“The Book of The Film” produced to tie in to the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock classic. The work is considered one of the earliest examples of the ‘man-on-the-run’ archetype, now a staple plot device in books and film alike.
In the original cloth binding in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally very smart with bumping to the extremities. Creasing to joints resulting in slight lifting to back strip. Offsetting to endpapers. Dust wrapper is smart with chipping and the occasional closed tear to the extremities. Archival tape reinforcement to reverse of wrap and lower backstrip. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
Grading: VERY GOOD in a VERY GOOD dust wrapper.
