The very scarce first edition. The second edition was not published until 1952.
In an excellent example of the original unclipped dust wrapper. With four line drawings by Ackerley.
Written by British author and editor, Joe Randolph Ackerley. Based on a journal kept by Ackerley during his five month engagement as secretary to Maharaja Vishwanath Singh Bahadur. Both Ackerley and the Maharaja were homosexual, with the work described as a ‘gay satire on autocracy’.
In the original cloth binding in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally very smart with just slight bumping to the extremities. Slightly cocked. Small contemporary ink inscription to front free endpaper. Dust wrapper is generally smart with creasing to the joints and extremities. Slight chipping to extremities. Age toning and the odd spot to the wrap. Evidence of archival tape reinforcement to reverse of wrap. Internally firmly bound. The odd spot, slightly heavier to fore edge.
Grading: NEAR FINE in a VERY GOOD dust wrapper.
